Project: Ilha Bela (2007)
Client: Leila Abe
Site: Ilha Bela, Brazil
Size: 4 holidayhouses of 180m2 each
For Leila Abe, owner of the artgallery Paulista in the Netherlands, we developed a project of
4 pavilions on a 16.000m2 piece of land on Ilha Bela, a tropical island some 4 hours driving from Sao Paulo.
As half of the terrain is covered by protected Atlantic rainforest, we could only use half of the area for
the project. We kept the area as green as possible, and designed the pavilions in such a way that they almost
disappear in the forest. Moreover, we only used rough natural materials like wood and stones that are cut on site.
We used a natural spring that we found between two large boulders, to create a swimming pool.
Each pavilions counts with a large varanda, as through the trees one has beautiful views on the ocean.
